As part of World Book Day, Year 3 have been busy this morning reading and then reflecting on Dear Earth. In the book, it says that the Earth is fragile and needs love and care. Year 3 came up with many ideas on how we can care for our wonderful planet! Take a look at some of our ideas:
Happy World Book Day! Dressed in their pyjamas, the children are enjoying sharing their books today. We have some wonderful cakes to celebrate the day too – they will be cut up and on sale at 3.15 this afternoon.
We look forward to welcoming parents and carers to our Big Read at 2.55pm today! Please enter the gates onto the playground by Year 1 and 2.
Thursday 5th March is World Book Day, and to celebrate sharing books and stories, we’ll be celebrating in a number of different ways, and would love you to join in.
The Great Bookish Bake-Off
Children’s books from The Faraway Tree to Harry Potter, The Hungry Caterpillar to The Great Chocoplot are packed with delicious delicacies to tempt our taste buds. We would love to create a book-based cake inspired by your favourite book. Whether it’s all about the decoration, or trying to recreate a famous treat we’ll be looking for creativity and originality, visual impact and relevance to your chosen book. After last year’s amazing entries, we’re really excited to see what you can come up with this year. Miss Roberts has already shown me her bake, can you guess which book character it is?
All entries will be sold in The Barn at the end of the school day to raise funds to buy new library books.
Bedtime Stories
There is nothing better than settling down with someone to share a story at bedtime, so please remember to come to school in your pyjamas and bring your favourite book with you to share with your friends. Please remember, you need to come to school in sensible footwear and must have outdoor shoes for playtimes.
The Big Read
We are also inviting parents/carers to come in to your child’s class at 3.00pm to share stories at the end of our school day.The gates will be unlocked at 2.55pm. Please line up and sign in to go to your youngest child’s class (older siblings will join your there), to join in with our Big Read.
For safeguarding purposes, we will need to close and lock the gate again at 3.00pm, and unfortunately will not be able to let parents in through the main office.

This morning, Year 2 had a fun Maths lesson learning all about fractions. They were given pieces of paper and were asked to fold them into halves and quarters (we even had some eighths and tenths!). The children all showed great enthusiasm for learning different parts of a whole.
As part of Science linked with Art, Year 6 looked at how light travels and casts a shadow. We took advantage of the sun and went outside to create some great sketches of objects with their individual shadows. A great start to your first day back after the holidays, Year 6.
Congratulations to everyone who has been working hard in and out of school, displaying all of our school values! It was fabulous to see so many sporting achievements this week!

Continuing their learning of light, Year 3 looked at reflections made by nature. The children examined pictures of landscapes which had beautiful reflections in clear and still water. They then designed their own reflective landscapes using watercolour pencils. We had some lovely scenic pictures. Well done Year 3.
Year 6 had a visit from the school nursing team this afternoon, to talk about resilience. The informative session educated the children about the effects of drugs, smoking and alcohol and how best to handle peer pressure. The children took it in turns to wear beer googles to get a real feel for what negative effects alcohol has on co-ordination. Thank you to the nursing team from all of Year 6.
Today, we had a ‘Fairy Tale Menu’ today celebrate Valentines Day. The children enjoyed Pizza Pinwheels, Mac and Cheese, Curly Fries and Ice Cream. Thank you to our wonderful staff from Aspens.
