Year 6

Rugby

This afternoon, Scott from Coventry Rugby Club joined Year 6. He spent some time reading with the children before leading the class in a rugby session. Scott will be joining the children for the next few weeks – let’s hope the weather improves!

Climate Change

This afternoon, Year 5/6 enjoyed workshops led by students from the University of Warwick with the support of UNICEF. They discussed the challenges of climate change and how it will affect our future. The children enjoyed completing a variety of activities and engaged well in the sessions.

Geography Enthusiasts

As Geographers, Year 6 had a great afternoon learning about the different areas of the UK that became evacuation locations for children of WW2. They were tasked with picking suitcase tags, similar to what children were given in the war, and they had to find the particular counties using an atlas. Well done Year 6 for showing great enthusiasm and enjoyment with our new topic.

Christmas Parties

Yesterday, the children enjoyed their class Christmas parties. They played games in the hall, decorated their tables and enjoyed their party food. Father Christmas even found time to pop in and give each child a book for Christmas.

Athletics

This morning Year 6 took part in the Sports Hall Athletics Competition at the Xcel Centre. They were competing with three other local schools and faced some really tough competition. Our children came 2nd place overall which is a great achievement! Well done Year 6 for showing great teamwork, enjoyment and discipline and we couldn’t have been prouder of how you represented our school.

Election Day

Our three week election campaign ended on Thursday as the whole school voted for their party of choice. The children have really enjoyed learning about democracy, which is one of our British Values.

The votes were counted up at the end of the day and, with only two votes in it, the winning party was the Future Technicians. They will now present their ideas to staff on how to develop the school.

Here are our party leaders casting their votes:

Visiting Teachers

This morning Year 6 were lucky enough to have a Maths lesson taught by some renowned Chinese teachers. The children were tasked with finding the code to unlock a door, and were mesmerised with how the computer knew what numbers they were all thinking. Mr Young even had a go! What an exciting, informative lesson!

Cannon Park Hustings

On Thursday in assembly, each party gave a presentation to the whole school ahead of polling day next week. The children were very persuasive, talking about ideas ranging from more equipment to more outdoor learning; from saving the planet to becoming the very best academically. It will be difficult decision for the children next week when they go to cast their democratic vote.

Children in Need

The children had a great time raising money for Children in Need on Friday. Everyone took part in the Joe Wicks workout in the morning – the staff found it more of a challenge than the children! In the afternoon, our ‘bring-and-buy’ sale was a bit hit. Thank you all for supporting Children in Need.
