This morning, a group of Year 6 children represented our school in a Coventry West Rowing Competition. The event, which tests the children’s endurance, hosts many local primary schools over the course of the day. Our children showed great discipline and trained for the competition during their breaks and lunchtimes. We are so proud of you all and await the final results from the organisers.
Thank you for all of the wonderful Easter bonnets; they were beautiful. Here are the winning bonnets, which will be in Hobbycraft (Central Six) next week. The winning bonnets were made by: Cohen, Trinity, Joel, Isaac and Gabby. Please vote for your favourites in store.
Year 6 were Scientists this afternoon, investigating biscuits and their dunking times in tea. They made predictions, carried out fair tests and wrote about their experiment and results. The children were unanimous in their findings, with the Custard Cream and Bourbon Cream being the biscuits which could be dunked the longest before finally breaking in the tea.
This afternoon, Year 5 were challenged to make a working shaduf.
A shaduf, also spelled shadoof, is a hand-operated device for lifting water, invented in ancient times and still used in India, Egypt, and some other countries to irrigate land. Typically it consists of a long, tapering, nearly horizontal pole mounted like a seesaw.
They had to use their knowledge of forces and mechanisms to investigate the best way to build one with the materials available…
Everyone in school enjoyed celebrating books yesterday for World Book Day. The children, who were dressed in their PJs with their favourite bedtime story, enjoyed doing a variety of bookish activities. Mrs MacDonald rang the bell several times throughout the day, which meant the children had to ‘drop everything and read’.
Thank you to the families who sent in cakes as part of our Great Bookish Bake Off. The money raised in the cake sale at the end of the day will go right back into buying books for our library, which the children will enjoy.
Finally, a big thank you to all the parents and carers and grandparents who came in to join us for the Big Read at the end of the day. It was lovely to see so many children enjoying stories!
Year 5 had a reflective morning thinking about some of their favourite books, and then created some amazing video reviews. One was for this year’s winning book in the Hooked On Books category for the Coventry Inspiration Book Awards. We’d like to say a huge congratulations to Kirsty Applebaum for winning – we loved The Middler – and a massive thank you to Coventry School Library Service who organise the awards each year. As you can tell from this video, all of the children have loved taking part, and have all got involved!
As part of World Book Day, Year 3 have been busy this morning reading and then reflecting on Dear Earth. In the book, it says that the Earth is fragile and needs love and care. Year 3 came up with many ideas on how we can care for our wonderful planet! Take a look at some of our ideas:
Happy World Book Day! Dressed in their pyjamas, the children are enjoying sharing their books today. We have some wonderful cakes to celebrate the day too – they will be cut up and on sale at 3.15 this afternoon.
