Girls On Track

Last week, Cannon Park were fortunate enough to be able to invite ten girls to participate in an engineering day at the Coventry Transport Museum. The event was hosted by Motorsports UK and featured many exciting engineering tasks encluding Lego Programming, Pit Stop challenges and the introduction of the F1 in schools programme. It was a fun and informative day which helped teach the children about diversity in motorsports.

Tasty Tuesday on Wellness Wednesday

This morning, Year 6 were making their very own salsa as part of healthy schools week. The children enjoyed creating their own dish using simple ingredients such as tomatoes, onions, fresh coriander, garlic and lime – they did this with little to no instructions. Mr Young judged their work Paul Hollywood style but due to the impressive quality of each dish, found it very difficult to decide on a winner!

Well done everyone and I hope many of you try this recipe out at home, your parents will love it!

Year 6 and the Olympic torch handover to Finham Park School.

Yesterday, the Year 6 children enjoyed holding an Olympic torch dating back to 1948. We were passed the torch by Stivichall Primary School and were entrusted with it until it was our turn to pass it on. They learnt about the history of the Olympics and the values associated with the event.

Today, a selection of children proudly carried the Olympic torch to Finham Park School. They demonstrated all the values expected of them and shared carrying duties along the way. Upon being greeted by Finham Park Staff, they were given the opportunity to do a short relay race along the running track where they were then greeted by welcoming Finham Park students at the other end. One of our children even gave a rousing speech to their headteacher upon arrival!

Mr Young and Mr Sawbridge couldn’t be prouder of how the children conducted themselves throughout this event and truly believe this once in a life time opportunity will leaving many lasting memories.

Well done everyone.

NHS Coventry with Year 6

An informative session delivered by NHS Coventry. The children learnt how to tackle peer pressure and learnt about the negative effects of substance abuse. Well done Year 6!

Success at Schneider Electric

Year 2 & 6 visited Schneider Electric this week for an engineering competition. The children had to compete in a variety of vehicle-based challenges including ramp climbs, distance events and interviews discussing their designs with real life engineers. A Year 6 team from Cannon Park won the Best Engineer award and Year 2 were awarded a runner up prize. Despite the rain, a fantastic day of learning was enjoyed by all.
